Cardiff and Vale College first in Wales to gain Matrix Award
Cardiff and Vale College has been awarded the Matrix Quality Standard Award for whole college provision – a first for Further Education colleges in Wales.
The Matrix standard is a quality framework that organisations can use to assess their information, advice and guidance services. The award reflects the strength of Cardiff and Vale College’s careers, information, advice and guidance provision across the entire College at all levels.
The assessor interviewed staff and students across the College’s campuses over a three day period. They identified strengths in the College’s clear mission and values, clear reporting systems and meeting structures, joined-up working between curriculum and support, faculty support panels showing the whole College works for the benefit of the learner and useful and informative Support Services information material for students.
The assessor also noted that changes to the College’s Learner Journey structure have had a positive impact, clearly bringing support together which has benefited student success. The College will hold this quality mark for three years and it will then be reviewed against an action plan to extend the award.
CAVC Principal Kay Martin said: “At Cardiff and Vale College we are committed to providing the very best learner journey for our students. Colleges should not be just places that churn out qualifications; they must also equip learners for the world of work and support them through that process.
“That is why we are delighted to obtain the Matrix Quality standard as it represents the excellence in the service we provide to our students. This award will enable us to continue to improve the information, advice and guidance we offer.”
