Make sense of the numbers!

This practical course is designed specifically for anyone who doesn’t have a financial background but needs to understand how finance impacts their role. We will provide an overview of financial reporting and introduce you to the principles of double-entry bookkeeping – providing a clear foundation to understand the mechanics of financial transactions.

Whether you manage a team, a department or a project – this course will give you the financial knowledge to lead with confidence. We will explore the difference between capital and revenue expenditure, dive into the real-world application of standard costings, basic budgeting, and variance analysis and introduce the powerful concept of responsibility accounting.

What you will study

This course is delivered at our City Centre Campus from 9.30am – 4:00pm.

During this course, we will:

  • Provide an overview of financial reporting
  • Introduce Double-entry Bookkeeping principles and the Elements of Financial Statements
  • Explore Capital versus Revenue Expenditure and its link to Responsibility Accounting
  • Apply knowledge of Cost Behaviour to the Standard Costing of Products and Services, Basic Budgeting and Variance Analysis
  • Compare variances to numerical differences and its link to Responsibility Accounting
  • Learn the basic interpretation of Financial Statements to help managers make comparisons over time or against industry standards

Throughout the session, and where relevant, specific terminology will be highlighted and explained to assist in providing clarity and removing ambiguity from discussions.
