Cardiff and Vale College was a proud sponsor of last weekend’s Pride Cymru, joining the celebration and raising awareness of equality and diversity and supporting the LGBT+ community.
A team of more than 40 staff and learners participated in the Parade through the streets of Cardiff for CAVC, celebrating 40 years since the first parade took place in the capital. The College also had a stall in the Pride marketplace over the weekend, engaging with the public.
CAVC is at the heart of one of the most vibrant and diverse communities in Wales and this year, moved from 3rd to 2nd in the National Centre for Diversity’s prestigious 100 Inclusive Employers Index 2024. The College also received the Centre’s Award for Further Education (FE) Provider of the Year. The achievements reflect the work being done across the College to embed Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE), and is the only Welsh FE Education institution in the Top 10.
As Pride Cymru weekend began, Cardiff and Vale College Principal Sharon James-Evans was listed on this year’s Pinc list of Wales’ most influential LGBT+ people.
“I am absolutely over the moon to be on this year’s Pinc List – it’s so vital that we champion diversity and inclusivity,” Sharon said. “And that’s why Pride Cymru is so important.
“It’s about wanting to be part of a multi-cultural and fully inclusive society and creating a world where everyone can live freely – and at Cardiff and Vale College we want to be at the heart of that.”
